Distinguished University Professor of Mathematics and Physics
Director of Institute for Physical Sciences and Technology (IPST)

After Professor Yorke earned his bachelors degree from Columbia University in 1963, he came to the University of Maryland for graduate studies, in part because of interdisciplinary opportunities offered by the faculty of IPST. IPST is an Institute established in 1950 and committed to interdisciplinary research in the sciences. After receiving his doctoral degree in 1966, Yorke remained at the University as a member of IPST and is currently its Director. Today he holds the title of Distinguished University Professor with appointments in the Mathematics and Physics Departments as well as IPST.
