Frank W. J. Olver

Professor Emeritus

Institute for Physical Science and Technology

Department of Mathematics

Research Interests: Recently, there has been a surge of practical and theoretical interest on the part of mathematical physicists, classical analysts and abstract analysts in the subject of exponential asymptotics, or hyperasymptotics, by which is meant asymptotic approximations in which the error terms are relatively exponentially small. Current work in this area by Olver and his co-workers include comprehensive and readily-applicable theories of exponentially-improved asymptotic expansions of solutions of differential and difference equations.
